Default 2013 Track & Field Season

The 2013 Track & Field season is almost upon us!

Which individuals and/or schools are poised to have big years?

    I'll throw some out there....

Leigha Brown of Edinburg Economedes, the current RGV Record Holder in the 100m hurdles, will continue her greatness.
Cassie Divin of Harlingen High is poised to have a big year.
Briana De Leon of Weslaco High is a young star.
La Joya Palmview girls always put out a good relay team.

    On the boy's side
Felipe Valencia of La Joya Palmview just took gold in the shot put at the Carl Lewis High School Invitational. Jose Herrera of Brownsville Hanna finished 3rd. Both should have a good chance for state.
Roman Hernandez looks to continue the hurdle tradition at Harlingen High.
The Roma boys were impressive last season in the relays.

PSJA Memorial should have a competitive team.
Sharyland should have a good team.
San Benito always puts out a solid team.

Throw out any names to look out for, as well as track news/discussion.
Many talented RGV kids out there!

In his first ever collegiate meet, Randy Bermea (University of California/Harlingen High) takes GOLD in the 400m hurdles at 2013 Cherry & Silver Invitational.

The first RGV track meet is a good one, the Bobby Morrow Relays held at Bobby Morrow Stadium in San Benito, February 8th.
Schools to be competing are Sharyland, both Harlingen schools, San Benito, Los Fresnos, all the Brownsville schools, La Joya, La Joya Palmview, Mercedes, La Grulla, Mission, Donna, Edcouch-Elsa, and Rio Hondo.

I saw Joe Herrera up close at the Carl Lewis Invitational last month. Good kid, should perform well this year. Good coach there at Hanna, as well.

Do not forget about the guy with his eyes on that valley record in the 300h. As a freshmen, state qualifier in the 300h. Vince Castillo from Donna High. Expect him to have a stellar season and career. Ran a 37 as a freshmen. Bermea didn't run a 37 until his sophomore year... Look for him and Roman to hype up the hurdle scene.

Kid is for sure a stud. Humble kid also. Works hard. Roman Hernandez seems to be filling in to his body. Flying on the track. Tall and lanky kid.

The most impressive athlete at the Bobby Morrow Relays was Cassie Divin of Harlingen High, GOLD in the 100, 200, and 400. You don't see that very often.
